Am I doing something wrong or do I have to break down and get a parallel port card? Looking around on the web, it seems like other people have made this work. It seems you can only name a new port - there doesn't seem to be any way to tie it to a physical connector.ĭo I actually have to plug into USB port #0 or #1 to connect to these pseudo devices? If so, which ports are they? There are 10 USB ports on the 8500 which are undistinguished except for color indicating v2 or v3. I have tried adding new local ports named so as to match the physical port indicated by the device manager - e.g., "USB005" - but so far I've had no luck with this. Plugging in the cable creates a "USB Printing Support" entry in the device manager (on whatever physical port I plug into), but when I try to add the printer using the wizards, I am presented with a choice of local ports USB000 or USB001. Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to connect an old Centronics parallel laser printer using a CentronicsUSB cable.
